Compania Mexicana de Aviacion ordered three Comet 4Cs in October 1959. Mexicana became the first Mexican airline to operate jets, taking delivery of the first Comet on January 14, 1960. The Comet entered revenue service on the Mexico City-Los Angeles route on July 4, 1960 billed as Azteca de Oro (Golden Aztec). The type would also serve main routes to Chicago, New York, San Francisco and San Antonio. The type was relegated to domestic service in 1967 before the type was retired from the fleet in December 1970, replaced by Boeing 727s.
